New Dubai Metro Blue Line map: What the route could look like

Is this where the Dubai Metro Blue Line will be?
News broke in October that Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) wants to get work started on a new Metro Line. And with traffic all over the city seemingly at an all-time high, a new route to help beat congestion is undoubtedly a welcome move.
Of course, it’s still early days. In October, the authority issued a notice announcing it was seeking interest from contractors for the new design and build for an entirely new line, to be known as the Dubai Metro Blue Line.
Joining the Red and Green Lines, it will be 30 kilometres in length, with 15.5km running underground and 14.5km above ground. It’s understood that the line will have a total of 14 stations, of which five will be underground.
And now, a map is circulating online showing where the 14 stations could potentially be located, with stops in Muhaisnah, International City, The Villa and Damac Hills. If the locations turn out to be correct, the Metro Blue Line could well help connect even more of Dubai’s suburban areas to the existing, arterial network.

As this is not an official map from Dubai’s RTA, it’s not confirmation that the stations on the map are where the Blue Line (or others) will eventually sit, but could indicate what the future of Dubai’s popular network could look like.
The map, uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, also predicts future extensions of the Red and Green Lines and the construction of the Gold, Pink and Purple lines.
Dubai Metro opened in September 2009 and is used by many to commute around the city. In 2023 alone, between January and August, almost 450 million passengers used the Dubai Metro, with more than 1.8 million using its services daily. Every day, more than a third of Dubai’s entire public transport journeys are made using the Metro.
Currently, Green Line stations are in Bur Dubai and Deira in the old town, while the Red Line connects the old city and airport to Downtown, Dubai Marina and Expo 2020 in the southwest.
